This is a Key Deer outside of Steve's house on Big Pine Key. Think Bambi and that's about how big these fellows are. Approximately 400 are left. Big Pine Key has a large section of land that is a preserve for these deer, but as I saw, many stray from the preserve and wander in the roads and properties of the private citizens that live there. On my first night I saw a deer get clipped by a truck. He skittered and ran off into the nearby woods, hopefully alright since he was able to run away. Near my last day on Big Pine Key I saw one run in the road, freak out, stop halfway, fall down, then run back into the woods. All this in front of me, a bicycle rider, and the cars that weren't even close to him yet. Its nice to see that nature isn't always graceful too.
