splitting of the tree

split in three
where the one is the opposite of the schizophrenic that is needed
a pulling a tearing a breaking apart
a big bang of  the flesh and mine
that always appears to never come undone
or remade
but is always is
the trick is in the quickening through the pain of blade and fire
I come back by breaking through

Ride to Rainbow Point

We recently took a van ride to a local town, Cedar City. At a thrift store we picked up an inexpensive bicycle for ten dollars. After replacing one tube and raising the seat it was ready to go. Taking it out for a test ride I ended up going to the last point in the park, Rainbow Point. The pictures are from points on the way. Hope you enjoy.

Recent art

Pictures from a notebook. The first was inspired by a tree outside my door. The next few reflect what its been like working in a kitchen. A lot of heat. The last I'm not sure of but I like it. I believe it is pre night.

Moving quickly

So last night went better than my previous nights. I was able to get my hands dirty, make mistakes and learn. I feel a bit more confortable today than yesterday. DJ, a woman I worked with, made me laugh prior to dinner with the music she was playing from a band called The Lonely Island. A hip hop band where nothing is sacred, but everything is funny. And a man named Steven Lynch, who does musical comedy, and quite well at that. After dinner she had us moving to some techno and dub step, which is great for cleaning. Had a good night of sleep, which is always extremely helpful. Plan to have a workout, some lunch, than back into the kitchen. Tonight will be saute, the station I probably feel most comfortable on, since I did more of that on the morning shifts. I also happen to enjoy it, though I found I enjoyed cooking meat, and have a greater appreciation for those who do so, and the requisite knife skills that are required to do so. Saute is fast and hot, where grill is slow and hot. So tonight we move quickly!

Night Shift

So I don't know where I left off. They moved me to line cook, where I cooked breakfast and lunch. Mostly french toast, pancakes, french fries and fish tacos. Good experience. Then about a week ago they asked me to move to night shift, so one of the other cooks could move to mornings. I said sure, though I knew I was completely out of my depth, and I've been right. They are trying to train me in three different stations, saute, grill and mid. Saute is quick flash cooking, pasta dishes over a flame. Grill is meats, lamb, steaks and pork mostly. Time consuming and requiring a deft touch with a knife. And mid cooks appetizers and directs traffic in regards to the tickets coming in and what needs to be done by whom. I spent three days, one on each station. Last night I was back on grill, right where I started. Its been overwhelming. I've been doing my best to input as much information as possible, but its been difficult at times. When it gets really busy, I have to get out of the way and just watch. I know the pieces will come together, but up to this point, its been frustrating. Will see how tonight goes.

Otherwise, things have been kind of up and down. Been applying for work, but haven't heard anything. The shuttles stopped running, so I haven't been able to get up to Ruby's for a swim. We did get to go to Cedar City the other day, and myself and another fellow went in on an inexpensive bike, so we could have some local transportation. I actually rode to Ruby's this morning which was great. Fifteen minutes, and mostly downhill there, about twenty back. It was strange to be back in the water aftere a time. Helped me realize how much I missed it. That I had begun to take it for granted. I hope to swim a bit less, so my body will have more time to recover, and to give it some variety.

The weather is beautiful during the day. Cold at night. People seem to be coming and going now. Employees that is. Hard to keep track. Not even trying really. Trying to adjust to night shift, as I get out around midnight now. Speaking of which, its time for me to get gussied up for my big evening.

Cheers,
Jamie

Navajo sand painting

This is from a book of Navajo sand paintings I purchased so as to have some decorations. It is NY favorite and is titled Slayer-of-alien-gods visits his father, the Sun.

A tree I free.

Not sure where

Probably from the Bryce Canyon rim.

People on the Navajo loop

From the Navajo loop

Navajo loop

This is from apopular trail at Bryce called the Navajo loop. Its not very long or strenuous but you get to walk down into the canyon quickly and be surrounded by hoodoos and red walls towering over you.

F.W. Sanderson

...full of the burning fire of enthusiasm, anarchic, revolutionary, energetic, daemonic, Dionysian, filled to overflowing with the terrific urge to create - such is the life of the man who risks safety and happiness for the sake of growth and happiness.

A quote from Richard Dawkins Science and Sensibility.

Mt. Zion

Took a day trip to Mt. Zion National Park. Spent part of the day in Springdale, tbe town outside Zion where I had a lovely conversation with the barista about the merits of hunting. The park is huge. I walked the narrows for a bit, see the picture with water, but it will take more trips to properly get a feel for the land. On the way out ee were fortunate enough to get to spend some time with mountain goats and sing Beatles songs from the movie across the universe. A good day off.

Today I'm fixing a Co-workers computer.
